An eventful Day 1 of the first ever Targa Wrest Point. An early start and into the car for the drive down to Dover in Tasmanias south. A quick stop to pick Ash, my shooting partner for the day, up from his hotel and before long we were at the stage and ready to go.
My brief for the stage was to get shots of the cars coming though this corner, with the road snaking off into the background. This little Fiat 500 seems to have been in every Targa event ever! Awesome little beast!

Hmmm black Porsche…. one day!

Scott Millar and Chris Dean’s Mitsubishi Evolution X

Gentleman Jim Richards and Barry Oliver in Tasmania once again!

And of course Jason and John White in the Lamborghini.

A Citroen rolled during this stage causing it to be downgraded to a touring stage about half way through.

This set the tone for the rest of the day. We found out spots at the Cygnet stage, only to find out after an hour and a half or so waiting that the stage, along with the two before it, had been cancelled, due to delays caused by accidents, amongst other things. So we made a mad dash to the end of the Oyster Cove stage and had to walk some distance into the stage to get some shots there. I love old 911′s, especially in such classic livery…

Nice old Monaro.

Liam Coyle is a friend of mine from the local Subaru WRX club. Only a relative newcomer to rallying, he is doing great things and looked good in his STI.

Sadly, the beautiful Porsche 911 of Pye and Geelan also had a bit of an incident near the start of this stage.

Off to the Pelverata stage in the morning, so best get some sleep now!

Great shot mate. Looks like I may be headed back to Tassie soon. If so, I might pick up a 5dm2 and join you

Morning Nigel,
Great work on these. What happened to the orange Porche? The family and I spent the weekend up in Launceston, so missed the entire event.

Thanks for the coments guys. Gee Aussie Dave, thats a big call lol
Andrew, really? for good? when? why? marvellous!
David Clifford, long time no see! Orange Porsche seems to have clipped the bank on the side of the road not far from the start of the Oyster Cove road, and spun, or, being a 911, probably spun and THEN clipped the bank. Rear end of the car was a real mess, bit of damage to the front bar and the windscreen had popped out, which was interesting, as I think it was unbroken and the roof didnt seem bent…
Rob, yes, the little Fiat 500s are awesome. The yellow one that was in the event, I caught on camera it being over taken twice haha. Not fast but they must be such fun.
Hope to get some pics from Sunday up today at some stage, ended out at the Longley stage instead of Pelverata.
