As well as wedding and portrait photography, I am really passionate about photographing cars and motorsport. Needless to say I was stoked when I got a call to head up to Baskerville Raceway to grab some shots of the White Hot Motorsports Lamborghini Gallardo which was undergoing testing for Targa Wrest Point. The shots will be used in an article on Targa Wrest Point in The Mercury Newspaper.
I did get an all too short ride in the car, and what an expensive ride it was too, as now I need to find about $500,000 in order to buy one. My old Subaru just does not feel the same any more and it must be replaced! Donations will be graciously accepted…
There was much testing to be done, and despite the rather terrible weather, with gale force winds blowing dirt everywhere, thanks to some nearby excavation work, and then the rain. I felt for the guys who had to tweak the cars suspension settings every few laps. They were trying to dial out some understeer. Here we see a committee meeting to decide how best to accomplish this.

Everyone loves a Lambo, especially here in Tasmania where they are such a rare sight. These kids were happily snapping away with their mobile phones, so I offered to take a photo of them with the car with a real camera.

Driver Jason White is seen here checking out some data logs. Very nifty this. The cars computer records everything – steering angle, throttle position, RPM, speed, g-force and position on the track, along with all the vital signs of the car. You can play it all back and see exactly what the car is doing. Very, very cool.

The 5 litre V10 engine makes the most glorious noise. It is really a thing of beauty. It growls and sings and screams all at the same time. Wonderful!

Time to get this beast out onto the track where it belongs! All together now… POOOWWWWEEERRR!!!!

Here is another shot of Jason, complete with his sponsors logo in the background…

Or should we say its the Black Stig?

I had a great time at the track, well it is hard not to… Thanks for having me along guys, and I wish you all the best for success in the inaugural Targa Wrest Point next weekend.
Fantastic photo’s Nigel, i am sure the Lambo guys will be very pleased. What a hot car (and Jason’s not too shabby either) !
Awesome mate. Great feature!
Great photos!!!
Nice selection of photos, and it’s good to see you made the most of the opportunity to photograph it
I particularly like the rear shots of the car in action with the exhaust flames.
What Martin said! The flames coming out of the exhaust looks fantastic!
Great feature Nige!
