The Winter Solstice means today is the shortest day of the year. “Great” I think… wont have to get up so early to get a sunrise photo. So Alex Wise and I headed to Taroona Beach for some shots. The sunrise wasn’t that flash in the overall scheme of things, but good enough to warrant hanging around and snapping away a few shots.

I recently bought a pair of Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81′s in Grey/Sulphur Spring from Grip Footwear in Hobart. Today I changed the lacing to Double Helix style, instructions on Ians Shoelace Site (Yes I am a geek)

Another shot from the Tasman Peninsular, this one at the Blowhole. Waves crash through a tunnel in the rocks building pressure and then smash against the wall in the hole, flying into the air. It is quite spectacular, especially when you are standing in the viewing area that looks straight down the tunnel, and you see it fill with water. If you are heading from Hobart down to Port Arthur, this is a must see. It is at Eagle Hawk Neck, just past Doo Town. From the same carpark, you can also check out the Fossil Rock lookout, and see the big waves crash into a cliff face. Some VERY large swells come in here! Also in the area is the Devils Kitchen, Tasman Arch, and Tessellated Pavement.

An early start and we loaded up Danny’s WRX for a trip to the Tasman Peninsular, dosed up on V and on a mission to capture a sunrise at Tessellated Pavement. We got there in the nick of time for what was looking to be a bit of a dud sunrise, but eventually we got some nice red clouds in the sky and managed to get a few great images. I hope to get a few more up on the blog at some stage but for now here is this one, taken on a Canon 30D with Canon 10-22mm EF-S lens, Manfrotto tripod and 222 pistol grip head. We also visited the Fossil Rock lookout and blowhole and got some pictures there too, though the sun was up by this stage.
